Sue Mackey
As the founder and principal of Out of the Box End-of-Life Planning, Sue Mackey's passion lies in helping people navigate the complexities of end-of-life preparation as a final gift to the ones they leave behind.
She combines this passion with years of experience as a consultant and educator, specializing in the creation of comprehensive final wishes reflecting core values and in alternative and affordable funeral planning.
Sue is a Certified Thanatologist. She is deeply knowledgeable around the creation of advance medical directives that effectively express your wishes for end-of-life care, and understands the workings of the funeral industry. She is currently the president of the Funeral Consumer Society of Colorado, has served as a member of the Ethics Consult Team at Boulder Community Hospital, has worked with hospice, is trained as a death doula, is an educator for families who desire a family-led funeral, and is host of the robust Lafayette Death Café.
She holds a B.A. in Gerontology from National Louis University, as well as certificates in Funeral Celebrancy, Contemplative End-of-Life Care (Naropa), Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care, Geriatric Care Management, as a Circle Talk Leader and is a Certified End-of-Life Doula through Quality of Life, LLC. Sue is also the Board President of the Funeral Consumer's Society of Colorado.
She resides in Boulder County, Colorado.
